Fitness And Weight Loss Tips is dedicated to providing quality information on the subject of fitness and weight loss.
A year ago, I realised I had to lose 15 pounds fast. I saw a photo which my husband took of me with my son when we celebrated his fourth birthday at a restaurant. The photo was taken after we each had a huge steak dinner and a slice of the birthday cake.
I could hardly recognize myself. And I was shocked at how tired and haggard I looked. And what are those rolls of fat doing under my rib cage? How come I didn’t know I had such thick love handles?
Since young, I had always been health conscious. I gave up sweets and chocolate during my teenage years just so that I would have less pimple breakouts. I swam at least 30 to 40 laps three times a week. I would go the gym twice a week, aerobics classes twice a week.
Then I got married, and had my first child 10 years ago. I managed to lose the weight I put on during pregnancy. But juggling with a full time job and looking after my young daughter and running the occasional errands for my elderly parents meant having no time to keep fit. I also had very little time to cook, so I ended up settling for Chinese takeaways, fast food, Maggi noodles, biscuits…..I often tanked up on coffee (with full cream milk or Cuppucino to be exact) as well, just to keep up with my hectic schedule.
Worse, I worked long hours. I often ate my dinner only at midnight, only to go to bed half an hour later. While rushing out projects, in between meals, I would be snacking on biscuits and potato chips, partly to stave off hunger pangs, and partly in response to the work stress.
I had my second child about four years ago, this time round, I couldn’t get rid of the weight I gained during my pregnancy. I felt lethargic, tired, listless. I knew it was time to get back to my old fitness routine, but I couldn’t get started. I would do a half hour of Pilates, and then I would take a break for the next three months! This is because with my busy schedule, I usually couldn’t find time to exercise in the afternoon or early evening, my usual workout times.
Like many mothers, I also developed this thrifty but unhealthy habit of finishing up the food left behind by my kids, in addition to what’s on my own plate.
The moral of the story is, if you don’t want to gain any excess weight, please do exactly the opposite of those things I did! If you did exactly what I did, then you would be at least thirty-five pounds overweight!
